Experimental Philsophy inc. is a 501c3 non profit incorporated in the state of Maryland. However Experimenal Philosophy is rebranding as an explicitly Catholic organization and the corporate structure will change in 2024.

History

Experimental Philosophy Started in 2019 While Our Founder John Asija was attending his first semester in the St. John’s college graduate program John was reading the Iliad and thought he could be getting more out of it. So he grabbed a few large sticks and some foam padding and made some makeshift spears and stood around in the back of campus and asked whoever walked by if they were interested in trying them out.

A few weeks later a Phalanx was marching around campus, a few weeks after that a pitched battle was fought with a group of Romans from the University of Maryland.

From these early experiments we arrived at a new understanding of the iliad, of ancient warfare and of the virtues and vices of the characters in not just the iliad but also from Herodotus and Thucydides.

As the 2020 pandemic and then later graduation sent the core group of experimental philosophers across the country we had a desire to take what we had learned and bring it to as many others as possible.

To that end we began to design lessons for classical high schools incorporating the readings and activities we found most enlightening from our experiments with philosophy.
